:pointr: Artwater Submission: Low-Res

:pointr::pointr:I did actually spend 3 days in contemplation of how I wanted to present the bottle/label... specifically my idea was to bring the "pixelated" style label together with the wire-frame effect of the grid to represent a wireframe render commonly done in 3d programs, to represent the 3d artists facet of the competition. I understand that it significantly narrows the demographic, but it just felt like the correct route given my abilities/inspiration.

:pointr::pointr: I've spent a few days ironing this out... trying to get the right balance between the semi-transparent pixelation of the waves and the wireframe.

:pointr::pointr: As well the reflections and transparency make for longer renders...making this all a little tedious... but I really felt I had something to offer here, so I'd say this is after about a solid 6 to 8 hours of work.

:pointr::pointr: Your comments are very valuable and I'd appreciate any thoughts any of you might care to share on the design or presentation.

Wonderful! May I ask, how did you wrap it around the bottle, without any distortion?

:iconfoxgguy2001:
foxgguy2001 Featured By Owner Nov 21, 2010  Professional Digital Artist
actually there is quite a bit of distortion around the upper lip area. However with the design it's not all that noticeable :D

I like the design ..
and the fact you went through the trouble to make
a realistic bottle to show how it'd look is excellent
cleverly done and thought out
good luck in the contest :)

Awesome work! Looks somewhat like something from Portal or a similar game. I would be proud to carry this bottle around!
I think, however, that a simpler, flatter, more stylized water droplet shape might fit more with the style of the rest of the bottle.

I agree, I'm looking at having the inner part of the droplet with a gradient transparency to look a little clearer, and have the water within visible. Great idea to revisit the droplet though! I wasn't completely satisfied... needed the nudge :iconcameraglompplz:

I actually like that you made this in 3d and then added the texture over it to give the idea of what it would look like. Very interesting a very good idea. want to share the bottle so I could make my own texture for it..lol

Well the contest description says "Conform only to the shape of the bottle and create an Art Water label that represents your aesthetic insight." So I believe all of us should be starting simply with a shape, and going from there :D

This is very well done! Although I must say, this doesn't seem to be that unique of a style in the water bottle industry (ha) as it is simplistic and modern.

Sure, I used 3dsmax and traced half the bottle using lines, and just lathed it to get the model shape... it was relatively painless...just like this youtube video shows: [link]

Excellent! The thing I love about this is that you not only used colors that one thinks of when water comes to mind, but you worked in that transparency and made it amazing! I would buy this just for the bottle.
